Arc8/9 Migration: Overview

Simply put, REGIS is migrating from an older version of software to a newer one as well as migrating the various REGIS datasets from an older data structure to a new way of handling it. Of course, this effort involves much more than that, however much of it will take place behind the scenes and out of sight of the average REGIS User.

The effort began in 2002 with initial planning and budgeting. In May 2003, the REGIS Agency selected EMA, Inc. to assist with the migration effort which has been in full gear since late summer 2003. Intial roll-out of the first applications in the environment began the first week in January 2005 and it is anticipated the entire migration effort will be wrapped up by February-March 2004.

The driving force behind the migration effort is to move the existing REGIS data and applications into the new Arc9 world. No new conversion of data will be undertaken at this time, although a few new (but already converted) data layers will make their debut as this effort proceeds. The addition of new data layers, however, will be easier once REGIS has migrated into the Arc9 environment.
