REGIS Applications, 2008

One of the functions of REGIS is to not only supply up-to-date data and user assistance to Participant communities and agencies, but also to provide applications in which the data may be viewed, analyzed, manipulated and output. To that end, all REGIS Participants have access to several GIS applications via a centralized architecture using high-speed connections.

On the user and data editor side, REGIS has standardized on the ESRI suite of ArcGIS and ArcIMS applications and makes these available to all Participant users and editors.

ArcGIS 9.2: ArcView

  • Primary GIS tool for REGIS power-users
  • Provides access to the REGIS data
  • Allows mid-range to advanced users to perform GIS query and analysis

ArcGIS 9.2: ArcEditor

  • Primary data editing tool for REGIS data maintenance staff, both within the REGIS Agency and at Participant sites
  • Provides an integrated editing solution with all ArcView level tools
  • Allows editors to immediately view and QC edited data

ArcIMS (Internet Map Service)

  • Allow users in Participant communities and agencies to query and view REGIS data via the Internet
  • Contains all REGIS data layers available through ArcView application
  • Easier to use than ArcView; ideal for novice users or quick glimpses at the data

REGIS IMS (Public Internet Map Service)

  • Allow citizens to query and view REGIS data via the Internet
  • Available for all users 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Data is filtered as per the desire of REGIS Participants and the REGIS Board
  • General sites are targeted at a large audience, while specialized or Participant-specific services are developed for narrower needs

The following ESRI ArcGIS extensions are also available to all REGIS ArcGIS 9.2 users:

  • Spatial Analyst
  • Network Analyst
  • Mapbook Generation

The following applications have either been proposed or are under consideration. Additionally, the REGIS Agency is happy to assist in the local use of other ArcGIS 9.2 extensions and applications where not installed centrally.

  • Pavement/Asset Management
  • Incident Analysis
  • Dispatch and Routing
  • Digital Submission
