Arc9 Migration: UpdateDecember 1, 2004 Many of you have been wondering about the status of the REGIS ArcGIS 9 Migration effort, as well as when the new Digital Orthophotography (aerials) will be available for viewing on the system. We realize updates on the efforts have been scarce as of late. The REGIS ArcGIS 9 migration effort was disrupted several weeks ago when it was found Kent County could not successfully edit the Cadastral data in the new system. As most of Agency staff efforts were focused on remedying this problem, the rollout of the new ArcGIS 9 environment was unfortunately delayed. This has also affected the rollout of the new Digital Orthophotography images as well. In a cooperative effort, Kent County PD&M has been able to start editing Cadastral data on County servers, which has allowed REGIS Staff to devote their energies to getting the data and applications ready for releasing the ArcGIS 9 environment to all users. As of now, we are anticipating being able to let the first ArcGIS: ArcView 9 users onto the system in two weeks (mid-December). All of the new data layers, including the 2003 orthophotos, hydrology and contours, will be fully available in the new ArcView 9 and Participant ArcIMS applications. We also hope to make the new orthophotos available through the Public ParcelFinder IMS (and related services) online within the next week or two. Training for any REGIS participant users will be available once the ArcGIS 9 environment has debuted. Please feel free to contact Chris Bessert at (616) 776-7616 or bessertc@gvmc.org with any training questions or for scheduling. In addition, REGIS Agency staff have been very busy assisting with the "Reinventing REGIS" process, which has unfortunately spread available resources rather thin. We appreciate your patience and apologize for the sparse communications while we both roll out the new ArcGIS 9 environment as well as work through the Future of REGIS planning discussions. Your input has been invaluable and we continue to welcome any comments or concerns you may have. Please watch the REGIS website ( http://www.gvmc-regis.org ) and the ArcGIS 9 Migration website ( http://www.gvmc-regis.org/Arc8 ) for details and updates. Also, feel free to share this information with any REGIS users who may not have received it.
