FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Sharon Vanderbout, 616.632.6522

Matt Woolford, 616.336.3529, or

Brad Fugate, Woolpert, 937.341.9349

Survey crews will be working throughout Kent County during the months of March and April placing targets to be used for aerial photography. The photography is part of a major countywide mapping project commissioned by the Kent County GIS Department.

Surveyors will mark particular spots so they are easy to identify in the photographs. They will also note the precise latitude, longitude, and elevation of each spot. Using the location information in conjunction with the photo targets, accurate digital mapping can be created.

To mark points for photo identification, survey crews will either attach a cloth, X-shaped target in grassy areas, or paint a similar target on asphalt. The cloth targets will be removed within 10 days after photography, and the painted targets are designed to wear off quickly.

The survey crews are employees of Woolpert LLP, the firm that is assisting the County with this mapping project. While at work in the field, crewmembers will drive trucks with a Woolpert logo on the doors and carry proper Woolpert identification.
