2005 Color 1-Meter Digital Orthophotography
Now Available within REGIS ArcGIS Applications

In late November 2007, REGIS staff made available a brand-new set of digital orthophotography (aerial imagery) within the REGIS ArcGIS applications (ArcView 9, ArcEditor 9, ArcInfo 9). This new set of imagery supplements the existing 2003 and 1998-2000 datasets already available to REGIS users. While at a somewhat lower resolution (1-meter resolution, as compared with REGIS' six-inch resolution), the nearly cost-free availability of this imagery made for an attractive addition.

The National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP), administered through the Farm Services Agency, US Department of Agriculture, acquires aerial imagery throughout the continental US. This imagery is collected mid-growing season for agricultural assessment.

Through a unique collaboration of university, state, and federal partners, NAIP imagery was flown for the entire state of Michigan in summer 2005. Once imagery was flown, it was orthorectified, color-balanced, compressed and compiled into county mosaics and uncompressed, color-balanced, orthorectified quarter-quadrangle images.

REGIS has acquired all of Kent and Ottawa Counties and is making it available in both color infrared (Color IR) and natural color formats. REGIS ArcGIS 9 users can find this new imagery in the REGIS Layer Manager under the "Digital Orthophotography" category.
