REGIS Services

A sampling of the services provided to REGIS consortium participating communities and agencies at no additional cost as a part of their annual REGIS dues. Additional no-cost services may be performed based on REGIS Participant needs and requirements at any time. (This document is also available in convenient PDF format for downloading and printing.)

  1. Access to nearly 200 different GIS data layers (and growing)

  2. Access to the latest, top-of-the-line GIS software: ArcGIS 9.2

  3. Access to the latest, top-of-the-line GIS editing software, ArcEditor 9.2

  4. Access to the latest, top-of-the-line GIS management software, ArcInfo 9.2

  5. Access to easy-to-use, web-based ArcIMS applications, around the globe, 24/7

  6. Access to easy-to-use, web-based, public REGIS IMS applications, around the globe, 24/7

  7. Provide access to ALL citizens, business concerns, industry, and service providers to seamless, regionwide GIS data and applications for ALL of Kent and eastern Ottawa Counties; a one-stop location for these data and applications across corporate boundaries; this helps keep lines at “front counters” to a minimum, citizens and developers off telephone lines and e-mail, allowing REGIS Participant employees more time to attend to their assigned tasks

  8. Access to extended ESRI-based GIS applications, including Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst, etc.

  9. Coordination with ESRI, the publishers of the GIS applications REGIS uses, for all software,licensing, purchasing, upgrades, problem resolution, customization, help desk, etc. so REGIS Participants do not have to

  10. Maintenance, updates and corrections to all REGIS data layers in a timely manner at no charge

  11. Creation of new data layers upon request at no charge

  12. Modification to existing data layers to support local business processes upon request

  13. Automatic maintenance, updates and corrections to all “critical” REGIS data layers, e.g. street centerlines, government units, etc.

  14. Data “scrub,” digitizing and conversion for all REGIS Participants for any size network, coverage or system

  15. Unlimited telephone Help Desk support every business day

  16. Unlimited e-mail Help Desk support, 24/7 with assistance and answers provided every business day

  17. Unlimited use of online “knowledge base” of Help Desk information, 24/7

  18. Convenient, quick and easy “shadowing” support for ALL users of centralized REGIS ArcGIS-based applications, negating the need for extensive telephone and/or e-mail communication delays or inconvenient and inefficient on-site visits to solve simple problems

  19. Support and assistance with network-related connectivity issues

  20. Free GIS training for any Participant employee at fully-equipped REGIS Training Lab

  21. Free on-site GIS training for any Participant employee at their working location

  22. Free one-on-one, personalized GIS training for any Participant employee, either at REGIS or on-site

  23. Coordination of ESRI-led instructor and other GIS-related training courses based on need and/or Participant request

  24. REGIS User’s Manual for any REGIS Participant employee (electronic or hard-copy)

  25. Support for organized user’s groups (e.g. Kent County Assessor’s Association REGIS Subcommittee)

  26. Programming and creation of specialized, Participant-based ArcIMS applications (public or internal)

  27. Programming and creation of specialized, Participant-based ArcGIS extensions and applications

  28. Support for asset management applications within the new ArcGIS 9.2 environment

  29. GIS-related database administration coordination, support and planning

  30. Data archiving, file back-up and recovery services for all REGIS Participant files stored on centralized servers

  31. Unlimited use of GPS (Global Positioning System) unit for any REGIS Participant on a first-come, first-served basis

  32. Training on use of the REGIS GPS unit, either at REGIS Agency offices or on-site

  33. Data transfer from REGIS GPS unit into usable GIS data layer for inclusion within the REGIS databases or saved to CD-ROM and delivered to user

  34. Standardized map template creation and set-up

  35. Cartographic layout and design services

  36. Electronic and on-line distribution of REGIS-produced, Participant-specific cartographic products (e.g. Plainfield Charter Township Water Atlas and systemwide maps)

  37. Development and customization of specialized cartographic products for a wide variety of Participant and community uses, such as the Downtown Grand Rapids Locator Map, the Celebration on the Grand Map, the Westrain Pere Marquette locator map, the Grand Rapids DASH Bus Route & Stop Map and the Grand Rapids Downtown Parking Facilities Map.

  38. Custom mapbook (atlas, platbook, etc) generation, including set-up and customization

  39. Address geocoding set-up and assistance

  40. Master street name reconciliation and street name list creation

  41. Integration of regionwide parcel, property and tax-based information and linking with GIS data from both local and county-based sources

  42. Data export and modification for emergency operations and computer-aided dispatch systems

  43. Assistance with merging locally-derived, locally-created and locally-maintained GIS data and database tables with the regionalized REGIS datasets

  44. Coordination with State of Michigan agencies (e.g. Michigan Center for Geographic Information, Michigan Department of Transportation, Michigan Department of Agriculture, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, etc.) to facilitate data sharing, exchange and integration so individual REGIS Participants do not have to

  45. Coordination with U.S. Federal Government agencies (e.g. Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Postal Service, Federal Railway Administration, etc.) for data sharing, exchange and integration so individual REGIS Participants do not have to

  46. Coordination with various external organizations, entities and groups (e.g. Right Place Program, North Country Trail Association, The Nature Conservancy, Grand Valley State University, Calvin College, etc.) for data sharing, exchange and integration so individual REGIS Participants do not have to

  47. Coordination of all digital GIS data sales

  48. Assistance with digital GIS data distribution to contractors working on behalf of a REGIS Participant community or agency

  49. Coordination of digital GIS data distribution for multi-jurisdictional projects

  50. Provide access to a variety of GVMC-produced data for use by all REGIS users, including Metropolitan Blueprint, P.A. 116 parcel information, Transportation Improvement Projects (TIP), federal-aid traffic counts, non-motorized study data, etc.

  51. Provide access to the Index Planning Support System, a suite of interactive GIS-based planning support tools that measure existing conditions, evaluate alternative plans, and support implementation of adopted plans, developed by Criterion Planners and available for all REGIS ArcGIS: ArcView users, especially planners (in ArcGIS 9.2 environment)

  52. Scanning/digitizing of engineering drawings, “as-built” diagrams, HAZMAT plans and other hardcopy information

  53. Linking of the scanned/digitized drawings, “as-builts,” HAZMAT plans and other information to GIS data features in the system for seamless use

  54. Distribution of scanned/digitized drawing, “as-builts,” HAZMAT plans and other related information to REGIS Participants on easy-to-use CD-ROMs for use outside of GIS applications

  55. Maintenance of detailed GIS dataset metadata information for all REGIS data layers

  56. File management services (e.g. ArcView projects, ArcGIS map documents, shapefiles, legend files, layer files, etc.) for all REGIS users, including renaming, file transfer, deletion and archiving
