ArcGIS: ArcView

The ArcView level of the ArcGIS9 suite of GIS applications is the "novice" level of that suite and the level at which most of the REGIS "power user" community will operate. Unlike the highly-customized REGIS ArcView 3.3 application from the past, the REGIS ArcGIS: ArcView9 application largely features "out-of-the-box" functionality with only a few optional customized toolbars. Thus, it is now possible for REGIS ArcView users to receive training from other sources, such as ESRI-led courses, on-line courses or even via books and CD-ROMs, in addition to REGIS Agency-led courses. Any REGIS ArcGIS: ArcView9 user is encouraged to seek the training most useful to them, be that through the REGIS Agency or from outside sources.

REGIS Agency staff will continue to work closely with all REGIS Participants to determine what training needs they may have and how best to meet those needs. If you or members of your staff are in need of REGIS ArcGIS: ArcView training, please contact Janet Fotsch at (616) 776-7751 or janet.fotsch@gvmc.org to discuss the various options available or to schedule a training time.

Additional information on upcoming ArcGIS training and contact information can be found at the ArcGIS I & II Training page.

ArcGIS: ArcEditor/ArcInfo

While the ArcEditor and ArcInfo "levels" of the ArcGIS9 suite of GIS software are based upon the features and functionality of the ArcView "level," the additional tools and functions they perform warrants additional training. While most REGIS ArcGIS9 users will not need to use the functionality of ArcEditor or ArcInfo, those who do have the same options as noted above with ArcView. However, the REGIS Agency will continue to provide specialized training and support for all ArcEditor and ArcInfo users as they maintain the many data layers within the REGIS environment.

If you would like to discuss the options for ArcEditor or ArcInfo training, please contact Janet Fotsch at (616) 776-7751 or janet.fotsch@gvmc.org.

Participant IMS (RIMS)

The Participant Internet Map Service, or "RIMS", is an intermediate web-based GIS application which allows those with limited need or little to no previous GIS experience to utilize some of the most popular GIS functions provided through REGIS. The Participant IMS applications allows users to view many of the REGIS data layers, perform basic queries, print basic maps and to perform selected analysis based on function-specific areas. Participant IMS users who master that system can then graduate into the ArcGIS: ArcView level of GIS in the future.

Additional information on upcoming Participant IMS (RIMS) training and contact information can be found at the Participant IMS (RIMS) Training page.

Other Classes

New applications will mean more training to REGIS Participants. Additional classes will be developed at the request of users in the Participant communities as well. If you currently have a topic or would like to get training on a special type of GIS analysis please contact Janet Fotsch at (616) 776-7751 or janet.fotsch@gvmc.org.
